Holyfield, Moorer Weigh 214 for Rare Equal-Size Matchup

LAS VEGAS — Evander Holyfield and Michael Moorer, two 6-foot-2 boxers accustomed to fighting taller, heavier opponents, each weighed in at 214 pounds Wednesday, two days before their heavyweight championship fight at Caesars Palace.

Holyfield’s last four opponents have weighed-in at an average of 235 1/2 pounds and, in his most recent fight, Holyfield weighed in 34 pounds lighter than 6-5, 246-pound Riddick Bowe.

Holyfield and Moorer came up from lighter divisions into heavyweight prominence, which Holyfield says shows they both can succeed despite a size disadvantage.

“We both know that it isn’t size or height that makes a difference,” Holyfield said. “When you go into the ring with two people with that mentality, it’s going to be an explosive fight.”
