PREP ROUNDUP : Buyukuncu Speeds to Season Best for Woodbridge

Derya Buyukuncu won the 200-yard individual medley in 1 minute 52.1 seconds, the fastest time in Orange County this season, leading Woodbridge past Newport Harbor, 109-60, in a Sea View League boys’ swimming meet Wednesday at Irvine’s Heritage Park.

Buyukuncu, who surpassed Mission Viejo senior Bart Sikora’s time of 1:52.99, also won the 200 freestyle in 1:44.1 for the Warriors (9-2, 5-1).

In Freeway League boys’ swimming:

Fullerton 100, Troy 82--Josh Martyn won the 50 freestyle in 24.3 for Fullerton (1-3 in league).

Sunny Hills 132, Sonora 53--Seann Schiele won the 200 IM (2:10.3) and the 100 breaststroke (1:04.8), and Eric Hyon won the 50 free (23.1) and 100 butterfly (57.7) for Sunny Hills (8-0, 4-0).

In the Orange League:

Brea-Olinda 116, Savanna 31--Jeff Ritter helped the Wildcats remain undefeated as he won the 50 free (22.99), the 100 free (51.31) and swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay. Brea-Olinda is 9-0, 3-0.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Costa Mesa 140, Century 40--Dan Buckley won the 50 and 200 free for host Costa Mesa.

Laguna Hills 115, Laguna Beach 50--Mark Kwok won three events to lead Laguna Hills (4-1, 3-1). Kwok finished first in the 100 butterfly (1:02.56), the 500 free (5:10.67) and the 100 backstroke (56.56).

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 116, Tustin 54--Adam McFarland won the 200 IM (2:11.6), the 100 breaststroke (1:08.8) and swam a leg on the winning medley relay team for Corona del Mar (6-0-1, 5-0-1). Jim Lowe won the 200 free (1:51.2) and the 100 free (50.9) for Tustin.

In Century League girls’ swimming:

Foothill 94, Canyon 76--Lisa Helm won the 100 backstroke in 1:09.81 for Foothill (3-5, 3-1).

In the Empire League:

Los Alamitos 122, Esperanza 48--Tatum Schubert won the 200 free (2:04.24), 100 butterfly (1:00.41) and swam on the winning 200-medley and 200-freestyle relays for Los Alamitos (9-0, 4-0). Adrienne Paradeise won the 200 IM (2:18.43), 100 free (57.88) and swam on the 200- and 400-freestyle relays. Joanna O’Kelley won the 50 free (25.64), the 100 back (1:02.10) and swam on the 200-medley and 200-freestyle relays.

In the Freeway League:

Sunny Hills 118, Sonora 67--Lisa Liu won the 50 free (25.8) and 100 back (1:04.6), and Tassanee Payakapan won the 100 (57.3) and 200 free (2:02.9) for Sunny Hills (6-2, 4-0).

Troy 114, Fullerton 66--Julie Denton won two events, including the 200 IM in 2:26.3 for Troy (3-1 in league).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Costa Mesa 97, Century 47--Elizabeth Christensen won the 100 back (1:10.72) and 50 free (26.28) and her twin sister, Leslie, won the 100 butterfly (1:16.78) and 100 free (1:07.69) for host Costa Mesa.

Laguna Hills 132, Laguna Beach 27--Giana Johnson won the 100 butterfly (1:01.94) and the 500 free (5:15.88) to lead Laguna Hills (5-0, 4-0).

In the Orange League:

Valencia 111, Magnolia 58--Rori Rangel won the 200 free (2:01.67), 100 butterfly (1:03.06) and swam on the winning 200-medley and 200-freestyle relays for Valencia (3-5, 1-2).

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 98, Tustin 64--Priscilla Burch won the 100 breaststroke for Corona del Mar (4-1-1 in league). Maikhanh Nguyen won the 200 free (2:00.0) and the 100 butterfly (1:02.5) for Tustin.

Woodbridge 89, Newport Harbor 81--Dana Nakaya won the 200 IM in 2:13.9 and the 100 butterfly in 1:02 for Woodbridge (8-3, 3-3).

In Empire League golf:

Esperanza 190, Katella 210--Ryan Donovan shot par 35 at Anaheim Hills for Esperanza (14-1, 8-0).

In the Garden Grove League:

Garden Grove 205, Rancho Alamitos 232--Tony Cowan shot five-over 40 to lead Garden Grove (4-1 in league) at Willowick Golf Course.

In the Orange League:

Valencia 194, Savanna 238--John Lee and James Wooley each shot one-over 37 to lead seventh-ranked Valencia (13-3, 5-1) at Dad Miller Golf Course.

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 216, Newport Harbor 231--Billy Sarracino shot one-over 37 to lead ninth-ranked Corona del Mar (8-1) at Big Canyon Country Club.

In the South Coast League:

Mater Dei 213, Mission Viejo 218--Scott Jordan was the medalist for Mater Dei (2-5), shooting three-over 38 at Western Hills.

In Empire League boys’ tennis:

Esperanza 12 1/3, Los Alamitos 8 2/3--Devin Lopez swept his singles sets, 6-4, 6-4, 6-0, for Esperanza (9-7, 5-1). Matt Fryer and Tony Hsu swept in doubles, 6-2, 7-5, 7-6. Los Alamitos is 10-3, 4-1.

In the Orange League:

Western 13 1/3, Magnolia 7 2/3--Mack Sunthonlap swept at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-3, 6-2, for Western (7-6, 4-1).

In South Coast League boys’ track and field:

Dana Hills 98 1/2, Mater Dei 37 1/2--Mark Reynosa won the 110 hurdles (15.56), 300 hurdles (41.00) and the long jump (20-5 1/2) for the Dolphins (5-0-1, 3-0-1).
