Simi Valley’s environmental services department is taking appointments for its biannual household hazardous-waste collection.
About 1,500 residents in the city and nearby unincorporated areas who have appointments will be allowed to dump hazardous waste at the roundup, scheduled June 11.
Scheduling is on a first-come, first-served basis. Appointments can be made by calling the city at 583-6321. Times and the site will be mailed with an admission pass.
No commercial or business hazardous waste will be accepted. Residents can dispose of paints and solvents, antifreeze, batteries, household cleaners, pool chemicals, weed killers, insecticides, fertilizer, photographic chemicals, auto and furniture polishes, and fluorescent light tubes.
Motor oil and filters can also be dumped, but quantities are limited to 20 gallons of oil and 50 pounds of solids.
No tires, smoke alarms, gas cylinders, propane tanks or medical, radioactive or explosive wastes will be accepted.
