Ventura College Foursome Commit to 4-Year Schools

Four more players from state runner-up Ventura College have made commitments to four-year schools, but the Pirates’ top Division I prospect, Brandon Jessie, is still undecided.
Forwards James King and Alfred Kennedy will attend UC Riverside, guard D’mitri Rideout is headed to Eastern Washington, and forward Thomas Gillespie will play at Regis (Colo.), Ventura Coach Philip Mathews said. Earlier this week, forward Michael Tate committed to UC Irvine.
Honors
Volleyball player Jon Baer of Cal State Northridge was selected Mountain Pacific Sports Federation player of the week after leading the Matadors to a comeback victory over Pepperdine.
Baer, a 6-foot-5 senior hitter, came off the bench to record career highs of 34 kills and nine blocks in the rally.
Northridge (17-9) and Pepperdine (12-8) will meet in the first round of the single-elimination MPSF tournament on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Stanford.
Kenya Hunt, an outfielder on The Master’s baseball team, has been selected NAIA District 3 player of the week. Hunt, a junior from Oceanside, had seven hits in 13 at-bats, including two home runs. Hunt, who raised his batting average to .323, scored four runs and drove in six.
Miscellany
The Jewish Community Centers Assn. has scheduled a golf tournament at Sunset Hills Country Club in Thousand Oaks on May 2.
