Cal State Fullerton will hold its seventh annual golf tournament to benefit Latino students in need of scholarships.
The Cal State Fullerton Hispanic Scholarship Golf Classic will take place Friday in Irvine, with funds going to the university’s Hispanic Scholarship Fund. Money raised will be matched by both the National Hispanic Scholarship Fund Inc. and the California State University system, with up to $10,000 from each group.
In its first six years, the event raised almost $250,000 for freshman scholarships and an endowment fund.
In all, 120 students have received scholarships, said Cal State Fullerton spokeswoman Paula Selleck.
The entry fee for the event is $125 and includes green fees, cart, golf shirt and other souvenir items. Sponsors include American Golf Corp., Wisdom Import Sales Inc. and Tlaquepaque Restaurant of Placentia.
Registration for the tournament will start at 8:30 a.m. Friday, and play will begin at 10. The tournament will be held at Rancho San Joaquin Golf Course, 1 Sandburg Way.
