* J. Russel Olson has joined Irvine accounting software developer State of the Art Inc. as vice president of technology, a newly created position. He was previously vice president of operations for Ventura Software Inc., where he was responsible for product strategy and development. Before that he held executive positions at both Ashton-Tate and Bloc Development. Olson also spent 28 years at IBM.
