‘3 Strikes’ Offender

* Your article “ ‘3 Strikes’ Count Unfair, Suspect’s Girlfriend Says” (March 25), sympathizing with Mario Rodriguez’s girlfriend, is just another example of The Times’ liberal reporting. This guy is an obvious repeat offender who routinely disregards the law. I think it is fantastic that he is “shocked” and “stunned” to learn he faces a possible life sentence.

Although, surely, it was not The Times’ intent, front-page publicity of tougher sentencing has the exact effect of deterring such unlawful behavior. Keep up the good work in reporting how “sad” and “unfair” the “three strikes” law is.
