COLLEGE BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Davis, Canyons Slam Door on Pierce, 13-9

Johnny Davis hit a two-out grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning Thursday to give College of the Canyons a 13-9 victory over Pierce in a Western State Conference game at Valencia.
Canyons, which trailed, 7-0, in the second inning, chipped away at the deficit with a pair of runs in each of the second, third and fifth innings.
Pierce (18-13, 10-6 in conference play) increased its advantage to 9-6 with two runs in the sixth, but Canyons (11-15, 7-9) again pulled to within one with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Canyons tied the score, 9-9, in the eighth inning when Tommy Nickels’ two-out single drove home Davis.
Nickels was three for five and drove in four runs, including two with a second-inning homer.
Kevin Milligan of Pierce was three for four with five RBIs, including a three-run homer in the second inning.
Cuesta 9, Oxnard 6--Robert Sanchez went two for three and drove in a pair of runs, Jess Olivares went three for four, and Jason Young doubled twice and drove in a run for the Condors (12-16, 7-8), but it wasn’t enough in a WSC game at Oxnard.
Joey Vargas (4-4), coming off of a 12-inning victory in his last start, took a 4-2 lead into the seventh inning for the Condors, having scattered five hits.
The bottom dropped out for the knuckleball pitcher when Cuesta rallied for three hits and a walk to start a four-run rally.
Moorpark 15, Santa Barbara 1--The Raiders (14-13-1, 7-7-1) scored all their runs in the first five innings of a WSC game at Moorpark.
Aaron Whitley was three for three with a home run and four RBIs.
Aaron Fischer had two hits including a home run and three RBIs.
Glendale 10, Santa Monica 3--Josh Parker (3-3) pitched his first complete game of the season for the Vaqueros (10-15-1, 8-7-1) in a WSC game at Santa Monica.
The sophomore left-hander struck out five, walked four, and scattered nine hits.
Armando Mesa drove in three runs for the Vaqueros in a two-for-three performance, and sophomore Lance Evans drove in two more runs while hitting a pair of doubles.
Bakersfield 8, Valley 1--Bakersfield parlayed three hits, an error, two walks and a hit batter into a five-run fifth inning that led the Renegades to a WSC victory at Bakersfield.
Vic Seper was two for three and drove in Marlon Hamilton with the only run for Valley (9-15-1, 7-9) in the fifth inning.
Cal Baptist 3-2, The Master’s 2-4--Kenya Hunt hit a pair of home runs for The Master’s during an NAIA District 3 doubleheader split at Riverside.
Hunt hit a two-run home run in the first game and a solo shot in the second. He has five home runs this season.
Adam Davis (3-1) picked up the victory in the second game, allowing five hits, two runs, striking out three and walking four in 6 2/3 innings of relief for the Mustangs (11-25-2).
Chris Beck pitched a seven-hitter and struck out 11 in the first game but took the loss for The Master’s.
