Burroughs’ Sallinen Clears 16-0 1/4 in Vault

BURBANK — Burroughs High senior Esa Sallinen moved into a tie with Brian Goodman of Agoura for sixth place on the regional all-time pole vault list by clearing 16-0 1/4 on his first attempt in a Foothill League dual meet Thursday at Burbank High.
The Finnish exchange student won the competition by clearing 13-0 on his first vault of the afternoon, and then had the bar raised to 15-8--one inch higher than Jon Switzer’s school record set in 1976--which he also cleared on his first attempt.
Before the record jump, the bar had been moved to 16-0, but another measurement yielded the additional quarter inch.
