Report Lauds Medical Instrument Makers: California’s medical instrument manufacturers generated $6.3 billion in revenue in 1991, more than the combined total for companies in the states ranked second, third and fourth, the state Trade and Commerce Agency said in a report released with survey results last month. The agency cited the burgeoning medical instruments industry as proof of “the state’s superiority in bringing together a variety of high technologies to manufacture a complex product.” Southern California is home to more than half the 837 makers of medical instruments identified by the state researchers.
