Hughes Plans Phone System in Indonesia: Hughes Network Systems Inc., a unit of General Motors Corp., said it has been awarded a $50-million contract to build a wireless digital telephone system in Jakarta. An initial 50,000 telephones serving 250,000 customers will be installed by early 1995, Hughes said. Ratelindo, a joint venture between government-owned Telkom and the privately held Bakrie Electronics Co., awarded Hughes the contract. Hughes Network Systems is a unit of GM Hughes Electronics Corp., the electronics subsidiary of Detroit-based GMC.
