All-state football player Leodes Van Buren of Newbury Park High, who was arrested last Friday on suspicion of firing a gun into an inhabited dwelling, is scheduled to be arraigned Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Ventura Municipal Court.
According to a police press release, Van Buren, 18, allegedly fired one shot into the door of his girlfriend’s Newbury Park home early Friday morning. No one was injured.
On Saturday, Van Buren said he told police that he fired the shot to cover up for a companion--whom he would not identify--who actually pulled the trigger. His girlfriend corroborated the story.
Van Buren is the state’s all-time leader in pass receptions and pass yardage and earned a scholarship to Colorado.
