MTA to Hold Meeting on Possible Fare Hike

Officials of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will hold a community meeting in Burbank next week to inform residents of a possible hike in bus fares and reduction in service beginning this summer.
The informal meeting, scheduled for Monday, is part of an ongoing effort to gauge public opinion concerning the fare and service changes that MTA officials believe will be necessary to close a $126-million operating shortfall.
Possible actions include increasing the basic fare by more than a third--from $1.10 to $1.50--and eliminating underused bus lines. Any changes would probably go into effect July 1.
The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Burbank Central Library, 110 N. Glenoaks Blvd.
A formal public hearing on fare and service adjustments will be held April 23 at the county Hall of Administration in downtown Los Angeles.
