PREP FOOTBALL / ORANGE COUNTY NORTH-SOUTH ALL-STAR GAME : Huntington Beach’s Gonzalez Heads the Lineup

Tony Gonzalez of Huntington Beach High, The Times’ Orange County lineman of the year, is among 36 players on the South team roster for the 35th Orange County North-South All-Star Football Game.
Gonzalez, who signed a letter of intent to play basketball and football at California, caught 42 passes for 720 yards (a 17.1-yard average) with 14 touchdowns during the regular season as a senior. Huntington Beach and Mater Dei lead all South participants with four players from each team on the roster.
Huntington Beach Coach George Pascoe will coach the South on July 8 at Orange Coast College. Game officials will announce the North roster April 16.

Running backs--Justin Flagg (Huntington Beach); Tony Mathis (Irvine); Wade Tift (Newport Harbor); Allen Vaughan (San Clemente); J.R. Walz (Corona del Mar).
