Anderson to Coach Master’s Women’s Basketball

Susan Anderson, a former All-Southwestern Conference basketball player for the University of Texas, has been named women’s basketball coach at The Master’s College.
Anderson, who has been playing professionally in Brazil and Japan the past two years, replaces Cliff McManis, who resigned in March.
High School Basketball
Numerous area high school basketball players are scheduled to participate in a Southern California all-star doubleheader tonight at Cal State Los Angeles, pitting seniors from Southern Section schools against their counterparts from the City Section.
The girls’ game begins at 6 p.m. followed by the boys’ at 8.
Southern Section players include Richard O’Neill of Crescenta Valley, Cody Patterson of Hart, Alex Lopez of Campbell Hall, Jason Hartman of Thousand Oaks and Ramon Jose of Glendale. Damon Ollie and Fantasia Johnson of North Hollywood will represent the City Section.
John Goffredo, who led Crescenta Valley to the Division I final, will serve as Southern Section coach.
Playing for the Southern Section girls’ team will be Sara Hagman of Crescenta Valley and Michelle Giordano of Buena. Tamika McThomas of El Camino Real will play for the City team.
Baseball
Jeff Bennett, a senior catcher for Newbury Park High, has signed a letter of intent to attend Master’s. Bennett entered the week batting .317 with one home run.
Water Polo
David Block, a junior member of the Westlake High water polo team, has been selected to the 15-member U.S. junior national water polo youth team for players 17 and under. The team will tour Greece for two weeks in August.
