Two suspects who robbed an Oxnard lunch truck Thursday were chased down and arrested after their car broke down as they tried to flee police, authorities said.
Ventura County sheriff’s deputies used a helicopter and the help of area residents to keep from losing sight of the two men. The suspects abandoned their car on North Del Norte Road and fled on foot into a nearby field, deputies said.
Robert Ortiz, 18, of Ventura, and a 17-year-old Nyeland Acres youth were arrested at gunpoint on suspicion of armed robbery, police said.
The two suspects allegedly followed the catering truck down Sturgis Road until it stopped, then pulled a gun on the driver and asked for his money, police said.
A Sheriff’s Department spokesman said deputies recovered the handgun used in the robbery and the stolen cash when the suspects were arrested.
