NEW PLAYOFF FORMAT
Winners of the three divisions, plus the team with the best record among non-division winners, advance to the first round of the playoffs.
The playoffs in both leagues begin Oct. 4, and if every series goes the distance, the last game of the World Series would be played Oct. 30.
