Police Offer Reward in D.C. Market Shootings

WASHINGTON — A $10,000 reward was offered by police on Friday for information on two gunmen who opened fire at a market, killing one person and wounding eight others.
“We have an unprecedented number of persons shot here, and we’re pulling out all the stops to bring this case to a successful conclusion,” said District of Columbia Police Chief Fred Thomas. “I commit to the residents that we will have a police presence here.”
Authorities said the gunmen sprayed the market with more than 30 9-millimeter rounds.
The deceased victim, identified as Duwan A’Vant, 15, lived just one block from where he was shot.
His mother, Karen, is a secretary in the homicide branch of the police department.
Among the three female and six male victims were two FBI security guards who were having dinner at a restaurant in the market. The youngest hit in the gunfire was an infant girl; the oldest a 63-year-old woman. None of the wounded had life-threatening injuries.
