LOS ANGELES : Deadlocked Jury in Rabbi’s Trial to Keep Deliberating

Jurors considering federal money laundering and conspiracy charges against a rabbi announced Friday that they are deadlocked, but the judge told them to keep trying to reach a verdict.

Abraham Low, 43, is a rabbi at the Fairfax-area Mogen Abraham synagogue. He is accused of offering to launder drug money during a videotaped meeting with an undercover FBI agent.

The jurors deliberated about five days before announcing that they were hung on all nine counts. U.S. District Judge Robert Takasugi instructed the panel to take the weekend off, then try again Monday.

Takasugi also told attorneys that a court security officer who passed a note to one of the jurors in the case has been fired.

Takasugi said an unidentified woman juror told him that the note, which was not made public, had nothing to do with the case, and that she could continue to serve impartially.
