Track and Field

Jeremy Fischer, a high jumper from Camarillo High, has been selected the state high school athlete of the week by Cal-Hi Sports.

The 5-foot-10, 155-pound senior cleared a personal best of 7 feet 4 inches to win the event in the Santa Barbara Easter Relays at Santa Barbara City College on Saturday.

The effort moved him to second on the all-time state outdoor list and into a tie for eighth on the all-time national list.

Fischer, who has made a commitment to Wisconsin, missed three times at 7-5 1/2 after clearing 7-4. A clearance at 7-5 1/2 would have been the highest ever in a U.S. high school meet.

Fischer also won the long jump at Santa Barbara with a wind-aided leap of 21-8 1/2.

The scheduled four-team meet between Cal State Northridge, Oregon and Colorado at UCLA on April 9 has been reduced to a dual meet between the Matadors and Bruins.

Colorado pulled out of the meet recently and Oregon decided to play host to UCLA in a meet in Eugene on April 23.
