GM Hughes Electronics Forms New Unit: The company plans to merge the administrative functions of three sectors--aerospace and defense, missiles and systems--into a new division called Hughes Aerospace & Electronics Co., which will be part of Los Angeles-based Hughes Aircraft Co. The division will be based in the Washington, D.C., area and headed by GMHE Vice Chairman Michael T. Smith. GMHE said the move should boost its competitiveness by enlarging its presence in Washington.
