Authorities on Sunday released the identity of a 16-year-old who was shot and killed after allegedly pointing a gun at sheriff’s deputies after a rap concert in South-Central Los Angeles early Saturday.
Ricky Nickerson was slain by two deputies in the 9600 block of Western Avenue near Jesse Owens Park about 4:20 a.m. after deputies tried to question him and four other occupants of a gray Buick that had been reported stolen, sheriff’s Deputy Ron Weber said.
Authorities said the shooting occurred after deputies spotted about two dozen people running from the park, where about 2,000 people had attended a concert sponsored by the Nation of Islam. Fourteen people were arrested, and four stolen cars and 11 weapons were recovered, deputies said.
