* I hope environmentalist Al Gore doesn’t hear about cutting down a 125-year-old towering white fir for a Christmas tree to be used on the west lawn of the nation’s Capitol (June 16). What a terrible way to celebrate the centennial of the San Bernardino National Forest by removing one of its trees. What an awful waste of taxpayers’ money to send the Capitol’s landscape architect out on a tree-hunting expedition.
