President Clinton named Olympic track star Florence Griffith Joyner and former congressman and basketball star Tom McMillen to replace Arnold Schwarzenegger as head of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. They will advise him “on ways to enhance opportunities for all Americans--not just the young--to participate in physical fitness and sports activities,” Clinton said. The President and Hillary Rodham Clinton played host to sports stars at the White House and attended the National Sports Award Gala. Honored at the gala were Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Muhammad Ali, Arnold Palmer, Wilma Rudolph and Ted Williams.
