MISSION VIEJO : Saddleback Trustee Applicants Sought
- Share via
The Saddleback Community College District Board of Trustees is accepting applications from residents seeking appointment to the trustee position left vacant with the recent death of Iris Swanson.
Swanson, 66, who was elected to the board in 1985 and was an original employee of the Saddleback Community College District, died on June 9 of cancer. She was president of the board at the time of her death, and her term runs until November, 1994.
To be eligible for the vacant post, candidates must be registered voters and live within Trustee Area 4, which includes all of San Clemente and Capistrano Beach, most of Dana Point and a small southern section of San Juan Capistrano.
Those interested in the position can pick up applications from Donna Martin in the district office on the third floor of the Saddleback College Library, 28000 Marguerite Parkway, Mission Viejo.
The deadline for submitting applications is 5 p.m. July 14. The board will interview applicants and appoint a new trustee by Aug. 9.
For more information on the position, call the chancellor’s office at (714) 582-4840. Details about the boundaries of Trustee Area 4 can be obtained from William Andrews, director of planning, research and development for the district, at (714) 582-4312. District officials say the board could exercise its authority to appoint a person from outside the applicant pool.
In related action, the board, during a special meeting last week, elected member John S. Williams in a secret ballot to take over as president of the board.
