Northwest Airlines to Cut Fares: Northwest Airlines said it will cut fares up to 30% on summer flights within the continental United States. The fare sale, which lasts until Friday, is good on tickets for travel through Sept. 15. Tickets must be purchased seven to 14 days before departure, depending on the days of travel. The airline had been expected to hold a fare sale to raise cash.
