David Kamau of Los Angeles stopped Fidel Avendano of Mexico at 2:12 of the second round in a junior-welterweight bout Monday night at the Forum.
Avendano never recovered from a left hook two minutes into the first round. He was knocked down with a left-right combination early in the second round of the scheduled 12-round fight.
Avendano went down without a count later in the round and slumped to the canvas after referee Robert Bird stopped the bout with Avendano, unable to defend himself, on the ropes.
Kamau, 140 pounds, improved to 19-0 with 15 knockouts. Avendano, 140, dropped to 39-3 with 24 knockouts.
Earlier, Stephan Johnson of Brooklyn, N.Y., stopped Wilber Kiggundu of San Pablo, Calif., in the fourth round of a scheduled 10-round welterweight match.
