Speaking on TV news programs, three Democratic senators called for higher corporate taxes and closing business loopholes to offset revenue that would be lost by sealing back the President’s proposed energy tax. Sens. Bill Bradley (D-N.J.), Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) and Max Baucus (D-Mont.) offered the idea as an alternative to cuts in Medicare and Medicaid sought by conservative Democrats.
