Fond Memories of Arcadia Park

It’s a sad paradox that closure of Arcadia County Park--created in Depression days by community and governmental cooperation at all levels and WPA labor--should be contemplated because of “hard times” that don’t even approach those of the Depression.
Let’s hope government, at some level, will find a solution, not only for the thousands of residents who use the park, but for the revenue brought in by regional and even global events taking place there.
As one who covered the park’s 1937 dedication as a reporter for the then-daily Alhambra Post-Advocate, and now as a lawn bowler for 17 years at Santa Anita Bowling Green Club, I’d hate to see it go down the drain.
As a child, I first saw the area during World War I--from a Pacific Electric big red car.
