HUNTINGTON BEACH : Annual Surf Band Competition Sunday
- Share via
The second annual battle of the surf bands will be held Sunday at the Huntington Beach High School football stadium.
Special guests and hosts of the program are Jan Berry and Dean Torrence, who in 1963 introduced the song “Surf City,” which became the No. 1 surf hit of the era.
The bands on Sunday will engage in the 1960s practice of competing onstage to become the favorite of the audience.
Featured in this year’s concert, in addition to Jan and Dean, are Dick Dale and the Deltones, the Chantays, the Kingsmen, the Tornados and the Surf City All Star Band.
Tickets are $10 each. They can be purchased at various downtown locations or through TicketMaster at all Robinsons-May, Music Plus and Tower Record stores or can be ordered by calling (213) 480-3232 or (714) 740-2000.
Children under 10 are free.
Gates open at noon. The concert will start at 1 p.m. and continue until sundown. For further information, call (714) 960-8298.
