Syl Saavedra, who guided Banning High’s baseball team to 103-51 record and four Pacific League titles in six seasons, has resigned as Pilot coach.
Banning qualified for the City Section playoffs every year under Saavedra and reached the 4-A Division championship game in 1991, losing to San Fernando, 3-2, at Dodger Stadium.
This past season, the Pilots (15-9) tied Carson for the Pacific League title and reached the quarterfinals of the 4-A playoffs before losing to eventual champion El Camino Real, 5-0.
