From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Joining California and New Jersey, Connecticut became the third state to ban the sale of semiautomatic assault weapons. Gov. Lowell P. Weicker Jr. signed the ban into law after the Legislature, by a narrow margin, overrode objections of the National Rifle Assn. and lobbyists for Colt Manufacturing, a leading maker of assault weapons. The new law bans the sale of 53 weapons based on military designs, including the AK-47, MAC-10, TEC-9, Colt AR-15 and the Colt Sporter.
