Rosemead : Year-Round Schools Rejected

Responding to a public outcry, the Board of Education has unanimously rejected a proposal to move the overcrowded Rosemead schools to a year-round schedule in the summer of 1994.
Board members said they would not rush into year-round schooling without more information.
A district growth committee had suggested that the 3,080-student district with four elementary schools and one junior high change to a year-round schedule for the 1994-95 school year.
Committee members and school officials had cited the district’s swelling student ranks with 3% to 5% growth in each of the past four years as a reason to go year-round.
About 100 people attended the meeting last Thursday at Savannah Elementary School, where parents, students and teachers raised concerns about child care during periods when children were not in school and the impact on family vacations.
