Councilman Who Suffered Stroke Regaining Vigor

SEAL BEACH — Veteran City Councilman is continuing to recover at home after suffering a mild stroke two weeks ago.
The 67-year-old retired teacher said Monday that he is gradually regaining his strength and is now able to walk around the block. The only lasting effect of the stroke is a vision problem in his right eye that makes it difficult to read. Laszlo said he hopes the problem will eventually correct itself.
Laszlo, a fixture of Seal Beach politics for more than a decade, said he hopes to return to his city duties in July.
Laszlo was stricken on the morning of May 22 just after getting out of bed and dressing. He said he felt a numbness in his right side before collapsing in his College Park East home. He was rushed to Los Alamitos Medical Center.
Doctors believe that Laszlo’s high blood-sugar levels might have contributed to the stroke, he said.
Known for his love of sweets, Laszlo is now on a sugar-restricted diet, he said.
