COSTA MESA : Gas Lines Broken; 3 Homes Evacuated
- Share via
Three homes were evacuated and a section of Fairview Road was closed to all traffic for more than two hours Monday while gas company workers repaired a leak in two underground natural gas lines, police said.
The leak was caused shortly before noon by a construction crew using a backhoe to install new pipe beneath a northbound section of Fairview Road just north of Adams Avenue, Police Sgt. Tom Curtis said. The backhoe broke through both a two-inch gas line and a four-inch gas line, Curtis said.
Fairview Road traffic was halted in both directions and three homes on El Rio Circle were evacuated, Curtis said.
There were no injuries, he said.
