My family came from several nations in the old country. Did I say “came”? Better say fled . Yes, they fled awful conditions, oppressive governments and backward cultures. When they got here, they did not identify themselves with hyphenated nationalities. They learned English, without benefit of formal education, and proudly became citizens, Americans. They fought in a world war on behalf of their new country and flew its flag every day.
C’mon, Casey, tell us why your family came here, what they looked forward to and what they left behind. Then we’ll all go to Disneyland together.
