LAKE VIEW TERRACE : Bernardi Proposes Dexter Park Upgrade
- Share via
Los Angeles City Councilman Ernani Bernardi proposed Wednesday that $250,000 in city funds be spent to upgrade Dexter Park in Kagel Canyon.
If approved by the City Council next week, Bernardi’s plan would supplement a previous commitment by Los Angeles County to spend $400,000 on the same park project, which is to include a new floor and roof for the recreation center and new playground equipment.
The city’s $250,000 is to come from a sometimes controversial fund set up to pay for amenities for residents living near the city-owned Lopez Canyon landfill.
Last week, the council unanimously approved a proposal to spend a total of $865,000 from the Lopez Canyon Community Amenities Trust Fund to buy a vacant warehouse in Pacoima for use as home for an anti-gang program.
Some residents had bitterly complained that this Bernardi proposal violated rules requiring that the trust fund money be spent on projects to help those areas worst hit by the noise and odor problems stemming from the huge Lopez Canyon landfill operation.
