Camp Verdugo Oaks, the Verdugo Hills Boy Scout Council camp, offers inexpensive family camping for the July 4 weekend, scouting officials said.
Frisbee golf, horseshoes, swimming, field sports and hiking are some of the activities available at “Family Camp 1993,” which opens at 5 p.m. Friday, July 2, and runs until 10 a.m. Monday, July 5. The camp costs only $25 for a family of four, $6 for each additional person.
Instructors in archery, BB gun and rifle shooting, and swimming will be available. Families must bring camping equipment.
The campgrounds, which cover about six acres and are able to accommodate about 250 campers, are just off the Golden State Freeway in Castaic.
The Verdugo Hills Council has scheduled Scouting camps from July 11 to 16 at the same site for Boy Scouts to meet requirements to advance in rank. Day camps for Cub Scouts are being held July 19 to 23 at Crescenta Valley Park in La Crescenta and from Aug. 2 to 6 at Johnny Carson Park in Burbank.
