Recycling Cans, Bottles
In response to James L. Schefter’s letter (Dec. 21) regarding recycling, I agree that recycling centers should be easier to locate and more abundant to encourage people to make use of them.
But the attitude that it’s not worth the time and trouble is what leads to buildup of garbage and a waste of resources.
With a bit of ingenuity, and a few phone calls, Schefter could have eliminated the 52 miles and three hours of wasted time and gas, and rinsing the cans (all of 5 seconds each) will take care of that “gooey mess.”
Many recycling centers also take newspapers and a weeks worth of The L.A. Times weighs in at 30 to 35 pounds.
A few small steps incorporated into weekly routine can make for a cleaner world.
