Prep Soccer : Fishman’s Goal Moves Marina to Title Game

Darrin Fishman’s second-half goal gave Marina High School a 1-0 boys’ soccer victory over Simi Valley Tuesday in the semifinals of the Marina-Fountain Valley Tournament at Marina High School.
Goalie Dave Buehring made six saves for the shutout. The Vikings (6-6-1) will play Palos Verdes for the championship today at 3 p.m.
In other tournament games:
Huntington Beach 2, Gahr 1--Joe Caldarela scored two second-half goals for the Oilers to erase a 1-0 halftime deficit in a ninth-place semifinal. Earlier, Huntington Beach defeated Servite, 2-0, in a ninth-place quarterfinal match. Huntington Beach (6-4-1) plays Edison for ninth today at 11 a.m.
Edison 0, Fountain Valley 0--Edison advanced on corner kicks.
In the Damien tournament:
Mater Dei 3, Riverside Poly 0--Doug West, John Coggins and Sean Sweeney scored goals to lead Mater Dei to a victory in the semifinals at Damien High School. In the quarterfinals, Mater Dei and Royal played to a 0-0 tie, but the Monarchs advanced on penalty kicks, 4-2. Mater Dei (12-1) plays Damien for the championship tonight at 7.
