Nordic skier Kerry Lynch of Denver has been stripped of his World Championship silver medal in Nordic combined and suspended for “blood doping” before the competition last February.
Lynch, 30, a longtime member of the U.S. ski team, was suspended only until Friday, and is expected to qualify and compete in the Winter Olympics in Calgary.
Lynch admitted his participation in the blood doping after weeks of investigations, officials said.
Both the United States Ski Assn. and the International Ski Federation have rules against blood doping, in which athletes receive transfusions of additional blood shortly before competing to provide extra oxygen to the muscles.
