Two of five seats on the City Council will be up for election on April 12, the city clerk’s office announced.
Incumbents are Kenneth E. Friess, who was elected in 1976, 1980 and 1984, and Lawrence F. Buchheim, who was appointed to the council in 1978, then elected in 1980 and 1984.
Buchheim said he intends to run for office again “because there are many projects to be completed,” including flood control work, a sewage-treatment plant, a road system and downtown redevelopment. He said Friess, who is on vacation, told him that he also intends to seek reelection.
Nomination papers may be picked up at City Hall, 32400 Paseo Adelanto, from Jan. 14 to Feb. 4, or until Feb. 9 if the incumbents choose not to run.
Candidates must be registered voters and live in San Juan Capistrano.
