The World : Uganda, Kenya End Rift

Uganda and Kenya agreed to withdraw troops from their border, a move expected to ease tensions that led to shooting between the East African neighbors two weeks ago. The accord came out of a two-hour meeting between President Daniel Arap Moi of Kenya and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni at the Kenyan border town of Malaba. In the last year, Kenya had accused Uganda of plotting with Libya to destabilize Moi’s Western-leaning capitalist government, while Museveni had accused Kenya of harboring Ugandan rebels. After the talks, Museveni said Kenya will investigate complaints that Ugandan rebels were finding refuge inside its borders. Both sides agreed to lift curbs on border traffic.
