San Diego police have arrested a Linda Vista man in connection with the shooting death of an unarmed security guard at the Holiday Inn in Kearny Mesa, a police spokesman said Saturday. Kenneth Myron Murphy, 25, of 2632 Nye St., was booked into the downtown jail Thursday on suspicion of murder, the spokesman said. Glenn Avery, 67, of San Diego, was found dead by police early Dec. 19 with a gunshot wound to the head.
The slaying began with the apparent robbery of three men and a woman by several males at a house in the 4200 block of Caledonia Street. While one of the robbers watched over the three men, who were bound and gagged, two other suspects took the female to the Holiday Inn, where her boyfriend was staying.
As one of the robbers apparently stood guard, the other robber took the woman to her boyfriend’s room and robbed him of $1,000. Police believe that Avery was shot as he came upon the lookout.
Police also arrested Murphy’s brother Michael Murphy, 30, of the Nye Street address, and Jessie Ray Moffett, 29, of 3876 Caminito Aguilar, on unrelated state parole violations.
The investigation is continuing, the spokesman said.
