Local News in Brief : Bus, Baggage Disappear

The grinch who stole Christmas turned up early outside the Universal Studio Tours to rob 23 Swiss and German tourists, authorities said Thursday.
Their tour bus with all of their luggage, passports and much of their money, failed to show up Wednesday evening, after they had finished touring the popular Universal City attraction and was officially declared missing--along with bus driver Deborah Bowen, 38, of Inglewood.
The operator of Las Vegas Tours of Hawthorne, meanwhile, paid for the tourists’ lodging at the Mayfair Hotel downtown. Victoria Patterson said she could not explain what had happened to the bus or Bowen.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department issued an alert for a white, MCI-make bus with silver sides.
