Opera tenor Jose Carreras was said to be improving in his bout with leukemia in a Seattle hospital. A spokeswoman at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center said that Carreras, who underwent a bone marrow transplant five weeks ago, was “doing fine” with no complications, and tests showed he is growing healthy blood cells to replace his diseased cells.
