The Pepperdine basketball team, 5-3 after defeating Cal State Fullerton, 80-71, Monday night, will play in Tennessee’s Volunteer Tournament on Monday and Tuesday at Knoxville.
The Waves will face Army, 3-3, Monday and Tennessee (4-0) will meet Colorado (6-1). The consolation and championship games will be played Tuesday.
Pepperdine performed well against Fullerton, holding off a second-half Titan surge that narrowed a 15-point Pepperdine lead to 73-71 with one minute remaining. Marty Wilson then sank five free throws and Craig Davis added two to pull out the win.
The UCLA women’s basketball team, 3-5 at the start of the week, will be at UC Irvine at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and play host to North Carolina at 2 p.m. Dec. 31 at John Wooden Center.
On the road last week, the Bruins snapped a three-game losing streak with a 77-68 win over Brigham Young but lost to 19th-ranked Illinois, 79-61.
The Pepperdine women’s basketball team (4-3) will end a six-game road trip when it plays Rice at 5 p.m. Wednesday and Texas San Antonio at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 31.
Last week the Waves finished third in Nevada Reno’s Wolf Pack Holiday tournament.
The Malibu Rotary Club-Palisades High School Holiday Basketball tournament will be played Monday through Wednesday at Pepperdine University’s Firestone Fieldhouse.
