Disney Project no Boon to Burbank
Regarding the Oct. 31 article on the proposed Disney-MGM Studio Backlot, Times staff writer Greg Braxton mentioned the large amount of taxes this development will generate for the City of Burbank. However, if he had further researched his material, he would have noted that, according to the deal that is pending, these taxes are to be turned back to the Disney people for further construction such as additional parking, etc., for their project.
In other words, it will be a number of years down the line before the residents of Burbank can “enjoy” any benefits from this development. In fact, it will probably cost the residents additional taxes to cover the cost of the added services of police and firefighters, installation of more sewer pipes, power lines, etc., to accommodate this growth.
For those families who purchased homes in Burbank because they wanted to live in a quiet, residential neighborhood, it is going to be an expensive disappointment.
