Pasadena : Referendum Bid Launched

Opponents of a controversial 184-home development near Pasadena High School have launched a referendum drive to overturn a zoning change allowing the project to move forward.
The announcement of the referendum came after the Board of Directors’ final approval on Monday for the Rose Townhomes zoning change.
Opponents of the project have until Jan. 21 to gather 6,315 signatures to force a citywide vote on the issue.
They contend that too many homes would be built on the 16.4-acre site north of Pasadena High School on Washington Boulevard.
Supporters say the project’s size is allowed under the city’s long-range land-use plan. In addition, the project would provide a substantial revenue boost for the Pasadena Unified School District, which has tentatively sold the property to Calmark Development Corp. for $9.3 million.
