Resentful of Accusation

Regarding the cost of the recall effort against Bonita school board member Robert Green, I feel democracy has been insulted. Board members Sharon Scott and Robert Green contend that paying for the recall election, scheduled for Feb. 23, will require money that should be used to hire more teachers. Does this mean that petitions with 7,000 signatures, community and parent involvement and the democratic process is acceptable only if the cost isn’t too high by their standards? Thank heavens our forefathers did not feel the same way.

Initially, Scott supported the recall of Green in this election.

I’m a parent who has been involved in the district for three years, trying to make positive changes. I resent being accused of taking money away from our schools. We talked to more than 7,000 people this summer. Our community is now aware of the problems. The contacts we made probably were instrumental in getting three new school board members elected. There were many parents and teachers who gave their time and worked hard this summer to collect enough signatures for a recall election. This district had a history of being unaccountable, ineffective and unresponsible. Green was part of that decision-making.

We now have a new chance in the Bonita Unified School District. Please do not start our fresh beginning with the usual political rhetoric and insults.
